Cascade Makes Ayers' Reinstatement Official; Recall Election Still a Possibility
The Cascade Bicycle Club just made official what I first reported yesterday:
The group's board has reversed course and decided to temporarily re-hire its executive director, Chuck Ayers, whom the board fired last week. In a press release, the group said the board had decided to keep Ayers on board "following many discussions," and that he would help the board find a permanent successor.
Cascade members had seriously discussed holding an election to recall the board amid speculation that the board asked Ayers to leave because of his focus on policy advocacy, and his support of the club's sometimes controversial lobbyist, David Hiller, who pushed unsuccessfully for the vulnerable users’ bill and other bike-related legislation last year.
If Cascade's message boards are any indication, a recall election is still a distinct possibility. The group holds its annual meeting on October 21, which is also the deadline for Cascade's 13,000 members to cast their ballots in board elections.
