On Other Blogs Today: Court Hits Cantwell for Turning Away GOP Students

1. The Everett Herald
reports that a settlement has been reached between the Attorney General and the Building Industry Association of Washington. BIAW has been in trouble since 2007 for improper campaign finance practices, and they finally reached a settlement with Attorney General Rob McKenna. The full fine amounted to $584,000 with $342,000 suspended, amounting to $242,000 to pay.

2. In 2006, some students wearing shirts supporting Sen. Maria Cantwell's Republican opponent Mike McGavick were prevented from entering a fundraiser for Cantwell featuring President (née Senator) Barack Obama. According to Federal Judge Ricardo Martinez, booting them violated their first amendment rights. Sable Verity has a post at Sable Verity saying the public is pissed that increased SPD patrolling is disproportionately centered around Belltown.

As for McGinn's stated commitment to the security of other neighborhoods? Just throwing us a bone, rather than giving them real reform, according to Verity.

The Seattle Times endorses Denny Heck for the third congressional district with a little snipe at Jaime Herrera without laying out her positions. Apparently the Republican candidate isn't "season[ed]" enough. Helpful to Democrats---not so helpful to voters.
