On Other Blogs: Constantine Announces Cuts in County Budget
The word of the day is "budget."
While the intrepid Erica C. Barnett runs around town reporting on the city budget, the Seattle Times has King County Executive Dow Constantine's budget announcement—Constantine recommends the County cut $14 million, amounting to the laying off of 200 County employees, with substantial cuts in human services, and a pay freeze for all County employees.
The County general fund is expected to be $60 million in the red come the next budget report. Constantine is also pushing a .2 percent sales tax increase, in order to maintain public safety programs at their current levels—without it, the Sheriff's Department will be forced to cut upwards of 28 deputies.
