1. Today's winner: the Initiative 1098 campaign.

I-1098, the high-earners' income tax—five percent on income above $200,000 for individuals and $400,000 for couples and 9 percent for income above $500,000 for individuals and $1 million for couples—got some good news.

Recent polling (by Democratic pollsters Stanley Greenberg and James Carville) found that only 38 percent of Americans favor extending the Bush tax cuts for the rich.

We've bolded the important thing about their findings: Washington state was one of the seven states they polled that was psyched about taxing the rich.

By 62 percent to 31 percent, respondents said they favor extending tax cuts only for Americans making up to $250,000, and by 59 percent to 32 percent, they supported extending tax cuts only for Americans making up to $1 million a year. The SEIU poll ran from Sept. 8-13, testing 400 likely voters in each of seven key states - California, Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin - for a total of 2,800 interviews.

2. Today's Loser: The U.S. military.
