King County Prosecutors File Charges In South Seattle Home Invasion
King County prosecutors have charged Solomon Xavier Thompson with assault and burglary for allegedly attacking an 81-year-old woman in her South Seattle home last week.
Court documents say Thompson knocked on the door of a home in the 7200 block of S Ryan and attacked the woman when she answered the door.
Thompson allegedly grabbed the woman by her throat, hit her in the face and head, and tried to cover her mouth when she began screaming. Thompson then grabbed the woman's bath robe and ripped it open.
Court records say the woman believed he was going to rape her. "He looked like a killer" and "he was professional at what he did," the woman told police after the attack.
The woman eventually passed out, but two neighbors came to her rescue and fought Thompson off.
Following the assault, police say Thompson went to a friend's house a half-mile from the scene, took a shower, and asked for a change of clothes.
The 81-year-old victim was taken Harborview and underwent surgery for a puncture wound to her throat. Police say Thompson "barely missed her voice box" during the assault.
Officers found Thompson's jacket and cell phone at the scene, which police were able to use to identify him. As we first reported, Thompson was arrested by Renton police on an unrelated assault at a transit center the next day. Seattle police obtained Thompson's DNA at the jail and were able to connect him to the assault on the 81-year-old woman.
Court records say Thompson has previous been diagnosed with "Schizoid-Affective Disorder" and has spent time in Western State Hospital.
In a 2007 incident, court records say he tried to strangle his mother, and then slashed his own hand with a kitchen knife.
Prosecutors have requested Thompson be held on $1,000,000 bail.
