Council Incumbents Already Raising Reelection Dollars
Apropos of my earlier post on the Seattle City Council's polling numbers (short version: Voters have no idea who anyone on the council is), here are incumbents' fundraising totals for next year's council races so far. Only one non-incumbent, 2009 council candidate Dorsol Plants, has filed to run next year; he has not specified which seat he's seeking.
Tim Burgess has raised $63,617, and has $43,829 on hand.
Tom Rasmussen has raised $104,089, and has $99,796 on hand.
Jean Godden has raised $39,620, and has $15,413 on hand.
Bruce Harrell has raised $55,659, and has $46,743 on hand.
Sally Clark has raised $112,103, and has $101,603 on hand.
A couple of footnotes to those numbers: Both Rasmussen and Clark transferred significant sums—$101.483 and $80,000, respectively—from their surplus accounts. Rasmussen did not have an opponent in his last election, and Clark had only nominal opposition. Second, Jean Godden is—as we noted in Fizz last week—actively raising money, a sign that the 78-year-old two-term council member (who initially said she would only serve one term) could be planning another run.
