The Morning Blotter: Man Robs Animal Shelter Bake Sale With BBQ Fork

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee July 21, 2010

Police say an intoxicated and/or crazy man tried to hold up several people holding a bake sale benefiting an animal shelter in Roosevelt last week, using a BBQ fork.

Shortly before 11:00am on July 17th, the victim and her friends were holding a bake sale at 65th and Roosevelt to raise money for an animal shelter, according to a police report.

A "belligerent mental and/or high 6-foot to 6-foot-4-inch male" walked up to the group and said that he "wanted a cookie, but he didn't want to pay for it." The man then lifted his shirt, the report says, to reveal a silver and black BBQ fork tucked in his shorts.

The victim later told police she felt intimidated by the man, who walked off northbound on Roosevelt Way "while he waved his hands in the air and talked to himself."

Police were unable to locate the man near the scene. The report does not say whether he actually pilfered any pastries.
