The Morning Blotter: City Plagued By Rogue Cutlery Salesmen
Two days in a row, we've come across police reports which appear to indicate a group of rogue cutlery salesmen are on the loose, committing robberies all across the city.
Yesterday we told you about a weed dealer who offered to sell his knife to another man in exchange for a dollar in a Beacon Hill Park on July 7th. Police believe the suspect's offer to sell his knife was actually a veiled threat, and have classified the incident as a robbery.
Four days later, a man flagged down officers at 9th and Jackson around 2:30pm and said a man—who was standing across the street at a bus stop—had just tried to rob him.
Police stopped the robbery suspect and found he was carrying a knife like the one the victim had described
The suspect denied trying to rob the victim, but said he "was attempting to 'sell' his knife to him," a police report says.
The suspect—who is obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer—told police he "held the knife out with the blade open and pointed it at the pedestrian," the report says. The suspect then "'asked' for $5 in exchange for the knife."
Police didn't buy the man's story and booked him into the King County Jail for attempted robbery. Police records indicate the suspect also had an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant.
