The Morning Blotter: Belltown Butt Stabbing
A police report released earlier this week reveals details about yet another violent incident in Belltown, which occurred just days before police SPD ramped up its presence in the neighborhood to crackdown on street crime.
The report says at around 9:15am on June 26th, a man was walking northbound on 1st Ave near Broad Street when a black male bumped into him on the street and ran off. The victim "felt numbness on his left butt cheek," the report says, and realized he had been stabbed.
The victim wasn't able to provide police with much of a description of the suspect, only saying that he was "big, like a football player."
Medics treated the man for a 1-½ inch wide puncture wound to the left buttock and took him to a hospital.
The weekend after the incident, members of SPD's gang, SWAT and Anti-Crime Team units flooded Belltown and made their presence known following a fatal shooting and several other recent high-profile violent incidents in the neighborhood. SPD says that aside from a few instances of fisticuffs, weekend incidents in Belltown were fairly routine. We'll see how long that lasts.
