Seafair Weekend Gets Off to a Bad Start

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee July 31, 2010

From the SPD Blotter, three people were shot with BB pellets at a Community Center in South Seattle:

On 7/31/10 at 3:06 a.m., officers responded to a report of a large disturbance at a community center in the 5600 block of MLK Jr Wy S. There was also multiple calls of shots fired. Upon arriving, officers found three victims who had been shot. Further investigation revealed that the weapon was a bb or pellet gun.

Two of the victims were treated and released on scene by Seattle Fire Department Personnel. The third victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with a round lodged in his leg. The suspect, described as a black male wearing a white t-shirt fled in an unknown direction.   An area check for the suspect was negative.

And then some jackass started firing off shots in Pioneer Square:

On 7/31/2010, at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers monitoring bar close in Pioneer Square, heard what sounded like shots coming from the west of 1 Ave S / S Main St. Witnesses provided a suspect vehicle description as a turquoise SUV, which had fled E/B from the scene.

This incident apparently came about when the occupants of the vehicle were being “too loud” for residents of a nearby building.  Some, as of yet, unidentified residents apparently became upset and after yelling down for the two subjects to quiet down, reportedly threw water down on the pair.

The response from down below was apparently to pull out a gun and to begin firing into the air. At this time it is unknown if the shots were directed at the residents or just generally into the air.

Officers located a possible suspect vehicle at a sandwich shop at 4 Ave S/S Lander. The occupants were contacted and detained. Officers found a 9 mm semi-auto pistol in the vehicle.

Back at the scene officers located two 9 mm shell casings. At that point the occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and transported to the Gang Unit Office, where the investigation continues.
