1. Graphic Sociology (Erica reads that one) has a somewhat contrarian take on an issue that has gotten a lot of play locally: The fact that suburbs are much harder to get around in by foot
.

Short version: Urban grid systems allow you to walk further—because all the streets are connected—than suburban cul-de-sacs, which force you to turn around.

GS doesn't disagree with that premise, but they do raise another issue: Cul-de-sacs tend to be safer than grid streets (fewer burglaries), even controlling for income and ethnicity.

2. King County Metro's General Manager, Kevin Desmond, writes a guest editorial on the Seattle Transit Blog. Desmond defends the reliability of buses in the transit tunnel and the links between KC Metro and Sound Transit.
