Man Opens Fire In High School Parking Lot
A fight over money led to a shooting outside of a South Seattle high school last week.
According to a police report, the man targeted in the July 15th shooting had been in a dispute with a friend, who was opening a business in South Seattle. The victim had been assisting his friend in opening up her shop, and she'd offered to pay him $685 for his work, the report says.
After paying the man $200, the report says the woman told the victim she wasn't going to pay him the rest. However, the woman's boyfriend later spoke with the victim, and told him to meet him in a parking lot of South Lake High School at Rainier Ave S and S Cloverdale.
At about 11:00am, the woman's boyfriend pulled up to the school's parking lot in a black Mercedes, got out, and told the victim "he wanted to give him the money around the corner because 'there were too many people there,'" the report says.
When both men pulled their cars down the block, the suspect jumped out of his Mercedes, pulled out a silver handgun, and fired three shots at the victim.
The suspect then turned his gun on a passenger in the victim's car, but the suspect's gun jammed and he ran off.
Following the shooting, police found several shell casings at the scene which were taken into evidence. The victim told police he believes the gunman is from Texas, and wasn't sure how much longer he was going to be in town, according to the report.
