The victim was outside of a bar in the 1200 block of Westlake with his friend and girlfriend, waiting in line at a hot dog stand, at around 2:00am on July 17th, a police report says, when three white males starting harassing another woman standing nearby.

Another man stepped in to defend the woman, but one of the three men in the group shoved him to the ground, sparking a fight.

The victim jumped in to help the man who had been shoved to the ground, and "was hit several times with a belt and buckle," gashing his head, the report says.

Police later contacted the victim at the hospital, where he was being treated for a four-inch laceration on the top of his head, a one-inch gash on the side of his head, and another half-inch cut on his ear. "All of the lacerations were deep enough to require stitches," the report says.

The man told police the suspects in the attack were all white males in their mid-20s. The man also told police that after the fight was over, one of the suspects told him "Don't mess with the Ukrainians."
