Afternoon Fizz: Voters Haven't Changed Their Minds on Tunnel

By Josh Feit July 20, 2010

Included in yesterday's KING 5 poll, which showed 63 percent of voters agree with Mayor Mike McGinn that Seattle property owners shouldn't have to pay for cost overruns on the proposed downtown deep-bore tunnel, was this stat: 47 percent of voters support the tunnel, while 46 percent oppose it.

That's the same finding polls have shown three times now, going back to August 2009.  Support for the tunnel was at 49 percent in August '09, 45 percent in October 2009, and 47 percent in July 2010 with a 4.5 percent margin of error.

So, despite the controversy McGinn has created about cost overruns, he has not moved the dial on the project itself.

It will, however, be interesting to see these numbers three months from now, if McGinn keeps up the anti-tunnel drumbeat.
