The union representing Seattle police said it has made its pick for who should be the next police chief, but that it comes down to an internal or external candidate decision. Union president Rich O’Neill said if the mayor wants to stick with an internal candidate, then current acting Chief John Diaz is the man. He has held the position for more than a year. If Mayor Mike McGinn wants to look outside for a new leader, O’Neill said the union's pick by far is Chief Rick Braziel from Sacramento.

We said (to the mayor), if you go externally, Braziel is the guy. If you go internally, we'd be fine with John Diaz."
