1. Jordan Schrader at Tacoma News Tribune's Political Buzz's covers the cartographical dispute between state Sen. Pam Roach (R-31, Auburn) and one of her Democratic opponents, Ron Weigelt. Apparently, Roach recently opened a senatorial office outside of her district. Weigelt pounced:
"While I had read about Senator Roach having no boundaries with her staff and co-workers (having been disciplined 5 times since 1998 for behavioral problems), I didn’t realize she had problems understanding other boundaries."
In the end, both candidates put out press releases that promise they know how to read a map:
Weigelt:
"31st Legislative District candidate Ron Weigelt was a Boy Scout and he served 12 years in the U.S. Army where he became expert at reading a map."
Roach:
"I am the mother of three Eagle Scouts and taught orienteering for 9 weeks of a girl's summer camp. I have a built-in compass that focuses on doing what is right."
2. Goldy at HAseattle.com has been hammering away the legal skirmish between AG Rob McKenna and Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark, including some really in-depth legal analysis (and some preaching). Essentially, Goldmark has asked McKenna to file an appeal against an Okanogan County Superior Court decision that allowed the local PUD to build new power lines. McKenna refused. Today, Jordan Schrader (quickly becoming an all-star blogger with two notices here on the Cola's "On Other Blogs Today!"), broke the story that Goldmark has filed briefs with the State Supreme Court that would force McKenna to go to court.
Goldy, quickly, added his two cents on Schrader's scoop.
3. The PI's Strange Bedfellows has a great analysis of a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee release that sought to link Rep. Dave Reichert to the near-infamous Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas). The DCCC is intent on crucifying Barton this election cycle along with anyone who has ever known him. According to the DCCC, that includes Reichert, whom they list as one of Barton's 24 "staunch" Republican allies in congress.
Unfortunately for the DCCC, reports the PI's Joel Connelly, Reichert and Barton have never gotten along, especially when it comes to Puget Sound energy policy. This isn't the first time the Democrats have been clumsy with the facts on Reichert—PubliCola called b.s. here .
4. SLOG reported today: "Dedicated Cycle Tracks Proposed for Dexter Avenue North." Cola readers will remember that BikeNerd broke this story nearly three weeks ago.
