McGinn Says He Plans to Hire New Housing Director

By Erica C. Barnett June 14, 2010

As I noted in this morning's post on Mayor Mike McGinn's proposed midyear budget cuts, McGinn's budget proposal saves money by keeping the deputy housing director position open and not appointing a permanent director. The director position has been filled by two acting directors---including the current acting director, Rick Hooper---ever since former director Adrienne Quinn resigned in January
.

City budget director Beth Goldberg told me McGinn was still "figuring out what he wants to do with those positions." Housing advocates have been speculating for months that the mayor plans to eliminate the housing department.

However, at a press briefing this afternoon, McGinn said he does plan to replace Quinn, although he did not say when that might happen. "We expect that, at some point, we will hire a new housing director," McGinn said, but "we will probably have fewer managers [in the housing department] overall when we're done."
