A man who walked into an Urgent Care in the Central District June 2 looking for pain pills for a gunshot wound to his leg did not have the most watertight explanation for police. The man told police he was "high on bud" six days earlier in Eugene when a guy approached him, mistakenly thinking the victim was selling crack, according to the police report. The unknown assailant then robbed him of an unknown sum of money and shot him in the leg, the victim told police.

When police asked him if he had contacted local police after being shot, the man said, "Oh, hell no." Instead, he walked to a hospital and received treatment for the gunshot (medical staff gave him the bullet as a souvenier, which he gave to his buddy). However, Eugene and University of Oregon police told SPD they did not have any records of gunshot incidents similar to the one the man described.

Another SPD officer had contact with the man May 25 (two days before the man originally told police he was shot in Eugene), and the man told police he had already been shot when that incident occurred.

When police asked why he was at the clinic, he told them he needed more pain medicine. He told police he had been to three different medical facilities and obtained pain medication from all of them. However, he kept loosing the medication before he had a chance to take it.
