Her service dog sensed the trouble first and started barking as the man with the knife emerged from behind a pillar and started walking towards her. At first, she thought he was a homeless man she knew. But as he got closer to her dog, she realized she did not know him and that he was scary as shit.

Holding his knife low to his left side, he told her he was going to cut her dog's throat. She told him he would have to cut hers first. He said he would do that, too, and kept getting closer to her until he was right up next to her (A witness to the June 11, 6:45 p.m. incident who heard the woman screaming described the man's proximity to her as "up in her bubble," according to the police report.)

The man yelled at her and her dog, but she managed to get to a phone. She told him she was calling the police, and the man told her to go ahead.

When police arrived, the woman and dog were there, but the suspect was not around. When they approached her, though, he came out from behind a pillar again and started walking towards them. They told him to make his hands visible, but he refused and kept walking towards them with his hand behind his back. The two officers were able to detain him with their hands with fairly little incident. They found a knife in his back pocket and he was arrested.

The victim was so scared she could not speak at first. When she calmed down enough to explain to officers what had happened, she was still not able to speak when discussing the suspect's proximity to her or his knife.
