Angie's Taps To Run Dry On June 20th
Friday night could be your last night to grab a drink at Angie's in Columbia City.
According to the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB), Angie's temporary liquor license expires on June 19th. Unless the bar's owners get a court order allowing them to stay open while they appeal the state's decision to not renew their license, Angie's would no longer be able to legally serve booze—and would likely close.
Angie's has been under intense police scrutiny for at least the last year. In a letter sent to the liquor board last year opposing Angie's license renewal, the city cited problems with drug dealing, overservice, gunfire, and unruly patrons at the bar.
In April, the WSLCB notified Angie's owners that the state did not intend to renew the bar's liquor license.
WSLCB documents say Angie's owners had the opportunity to ask for a hearing late last month, but sent in their paperwork nearly three weeks late. Because Angie's did not appeal the state's decision in a timely manner, the WSLCB notified the bar that their license would be up at the end of the business day on June 19th.
This seems like the real deal this time, folks. I've got a call in to Angie's attorney to find out if the bar will seek a court order. But you might just want to clear your schedule on Friday night if you want to pay Angie's one last visit.
