The Morning Blotter: Student Injured At Middle School Sleepover

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee May 12, 2010

An Eckstein Middle School student was injured when she was showered with broken glass while she slept in a classroom last week.

According to a police report, around 2:00am on May 8th, the girl was asleep on the floor of a classroom at Eckstein—located at NE 75th and 30th NE—during a sleepover event, when a brick came crashing through a nearby window, nearly striking her.

The girl sustained cuts on her arms from the falling glass, which also landed on her face and head. However, the girl's injuries were not serious and medics were able to treat her at the scene.

A chaperone staying in the classroom told police she "saw someone hitting the outside of the window with their hand" before the brick came crashing through the window. It appears no one got a good look at the suspect.

The report doesn't indicate whether police believe someone intended to assault students at the school, or if this could have been a burglary attempt gone wrong.
