PubliCalendar: Weekend Edition
As we explained last month, we’re going to be focusing on news and politics more than ever. This means our PubliCalendar—previously a mix of civic events, political events, movies, concerts, and weird readings that Chris K. liked—will focus (mostly) on the political and civic stuff. But, it's May, and the weekend's supposed to be the most summer-like yet. Et voila: Your weekend PubliCalendar is a mix of political and outdoors events.
Today's calendar:
Farmers market opening season continues today with the opening of the Madrona Farmers Market this afternoon.
Today, 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, north parking lot of the Madrona Grocery Outlet at Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. S. and E. Union Street.
The Seattle Art Museum hosts a discussion about Kurt Cobain between "Kurt" exhibit curator Michael Darling and Nirvana biographer Charles Cross tonight.
Tonight, 7:00 to 8:00 pm, Plestcheeff Auditorium, Seattle Art Museum, 1300 First Ave. $8 general, $4 members.
“Transition Friday,” a series of short films on alternative energy and climate change is screening in Wallingford.

Get an update on Seattle’s plans to revamp the Beacon Hill neighborhood plan around the North Beacon Hill light rail station.

Market Street Cycling Club in Ballard holds a fundraiser for BikeWorks and offers basic bike maintenance on Saturday.

The lowest daytime tides of the year so far happen this weekend on Alki Beach, making for great beachwalking.

The University District Street Fair happens on University Way NE all day Saturday and Sunday for performances, community information, arts and crafts, and food.

Three Washington State beaches open for razor clam digs this weekend.
Saturday, Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks will open Saturday on the morning tides (around 8:15 am); Mocrocks and Copalis will be closed Sunday.
Saturday, 8:15 am, Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis, and Mocrocks. $5.40 (three-day pass) or $9 (annual pass).

Twenty-five thousand pounds of highly anticipated Copper River salmon arrived in Seattle from Alaska this morning and will be appearing in markets all over town this weekend.
