Cinco de Mayo 2010 was a big day for Seattle robberies. One of the men hauled in following yesterday's hold-ups is a suspect in five bank robberies. SPD's details on the stakeout outside a Tukwila motel room and the man's blackberry bush-blocked attempt to flee, below.

Bank Robbery Suspect in custody

Since April 19th, a lone male was believed to be responsible for five bank robberies. Four occurred in Seattle and one occurred in Bellevue. The suspect implied a weapon while presenting a demand note.

In the most recent robbery in West Seattle on May 5th, the suspect was observed fleeing in a Green 1994 Honda Accord.  An unknown male and female were also observed in the suspect vehicle.

On May 5th at approximately 9:45 p.m.,  Washington State Patrol observed the vehicle driving erratically on Interurban Avenue in Tukwila. Upon stopping the vehicle in a parking lot and attempting to contact the driver, the vehicle suddenly drove off at a high rate of speed.

A pursuit commenced, lasting for over 5 minutes and ended at 176th & Military Road S. The suspect lost control of the vehicle and struck the curb, puncturing a tire. Both occupants fled the scene.

Containment was set up and a Tukwila K-9 Unit located a female hiding in the same block. She was taken into custody. The female suspect was transported to Harborview Medical Center where she was treated and released for several dog bites. The female suspect was taken to the SPD Robbery office for processing.

On May 6th at 0515 a.m., the Puget Sound Violate Crime Task Force, SPD Robbery Unit, and King County PD responded to a motel in the 19000 block of  International Blvd. Detectives learned that the suspect was staying in room #429.

While setting up containment, the suspect suddenly exited the room. A brief foot pursuit ensued, but the suspect was caught in the parking lot of an adjacent business, and taken into custody.

SeaTac Fire responded to look at the suspect’s back and hands which sustained superficial cuts from blackberry bushes. The suspect was transported to the SPD Robbery office for processing.

The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery and a Felony Violation of Uniform Control Substance Act Warrant. The female suspect was Investigated and Released pending further investigation.
