ST:

A 24-year-old Tukwila man who exchanged words with a pedestrian before running over him in a Seattle crosswalk in December pleaded guilty Monday to vehicular homicide and hit-and-run driving.

Eric Murillo hit Jerome Dumlao, 30, in a marked crosswalk at Bell Street and Western Avenue in an incident witnessed by Dumlao's family, according to charging papers.

Prosecutors and the defense have agreed to recommend a sentence of more than three years in jail, near the top of the range. Murillo has been out of jail and will remain out on bail until sentencing June 25.

A passenger in Murillo's Honda Accord told police Murillo and Dumlao exchanged words in the crosswalk before the incident, charging papers said.

Murillo then "drove forward, knocked Dumlao to the pavement then drove over the downed pedestrian," charging documents said.

After hitting Dumlao at around 2:24 a.m. Dec. 6, Murillo then turned left going the wrong way down a one-way street, according to court charging papers. Murillo was arrested nearby.
