Burglars Steal Corrections Officer's Duty Weapon...Twice

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee May 19, 2010

Seattle police are investigating several burglaries at a King County Corrections officer's North Seattle home after thieves made off with two of the officer's department-issued handguns in two different incidents in the last six months.

Police records say the corrections officer called police on May 14th after he "discovered his department issued Glock 9mm was missing from the lock box he kept in his bedroom closet." A police report says his bullet proof vest, a box of 9mm ammunition, three Glock magazines, a camera, and several pieces of jewelry were also missing.

The corrections officer told police his home was previously burglarized in December, and that thieves also made off with another department-issued gun was taken during that incident. Since that burglary, the corrections officer told police, his 15-year-old son's friends have been banned from the house.

It just so happens that police and the corrections officer were unable to find any signs of forced entry in the home, and the report notes that the lockbox where the corrections officer stored his gun was not damaged, and was actually locked when he opened and realized his weapon was missing. The key to the lockbox—which was kept inside the officer's room—was also right where he had left it.

How many guns will the county replace? If this kid had anything to do with the theft of his dad's guns, does that mean he could end up in jail with his dad as a guard? Would his dad have carte blanche to whomp his ass?  I have so many questions!
