The Morning Blotter: Man Tries To Attack Joggers In Myrtle Edwards Park

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee April 21, 2010

Regardless of what your cardiologist tells you, now may not be the best time to take up jogging.

On Monday, we reported that a man tried to force a female jogger off a trail and into the bushes at Greenlake last week. Today, we bring you slightly-less-harrowing news about an incident in Myrtle Edwards Park, where a man tried to attack several runners on April 12th.

According to a police report, officers were called to the park at about 1:30pm and contacted a man who told police he had been assaulted by another man who had been "lunging at runners" in the park.

The report says the victim was walking south through Myrtle Edwards near the waterfront when he noticed a man trying to attack people on a running path in the park.

The man then approached the victim and swore at him, the report says, and punched him in the head. The suspect—described in the report as "agitated and possibly mental"—then fled the park.

The victim had "red marks on his forehead" following the assault, the report says, but he did not require medical treatment.

Police were unable to locate the suspect.
