The Morning Blotter: Man Goes On Rampage At Aurora Motel, Clad Only In His Boxers

By Tom Fucoloro April 2, 2010

A man staying at an Aurora Motel barricaded himself in his room last week after he harassed and attacked several guests while clad only in his boxers.

The man's rampage began March 26, the night before. According to the police report, two guests at the Orion at 12045 Aurora Ave N. pulled into the hotel parking lot and noticed a man they had never seen before staring at them through his front window. They ignored him and went to their rooms.

Around 3:45 p.m. the next afternoon, the two men returned to their car to find it covered in baking soda. The man who had stared at them the night before allegedly yelled out his window, "Do we have a fucking problem?" When the men expressed their dismay that the man may have poured baking soda on their car, the man inside became so enraged that he charged his front window, knocking the screen into the parking lot.

Words were exchanged, and the man ran out of his room and chased one of the victims, who was able to run fast enough not to be attacked. The man then turned to the other victim and attacked him. The two exchanged punches. The first victim returned to help and contributed some punches as well.

The two then ran northbound on Aurora with the boxered man in pursuit, who they said was screaming and yelling like a "crazy man," according to the report. Once the man gave up running after them, he saw a woman standing in front of the hotel watching. He charged at her. Terrified, she ran southbound on Aurora away from the man. While chasing her, the man slipped and tumbled into a telephone pole. Now out of steam from his pursuits, the man retreated to his room.

When police arrived, the man refused to come out of his room. The officer forced open the door and had to push over the bed and chair the man had stacked against it as a barricade. Inside the room, the man was holding a guitar "like a baseball bat," according to the report. When the man ignored officers' commands to drop the guitar, one officer sprayed him with pepper spray. The man then wildly charged, swinging the guitar, and ran into the door, slamming it shut.

Police reopened the door and found the man hunched over his guitar. They took him into custody.
