The Morning Blotter: Jogger Fights Off Attacker At Greenlake

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee April 19, 2010

A woman told police she was attacked by a man who grabbed her and tried to force her off a trail at Greenlake last week, a police report says.

According to the report, the woman was running south on the Greenlake trail near the stadium at the south end of the lake at about 10:00am on April 11th, when she was a man walking towards her. The woman thought the man "looked suspicious because he was wearing a big puffy jacket" when it was warm outside, and also appeared to be "sizing her up."

The woman tried to go around the man, but the man stepped in front of her several times, blocking her path. The man then grabbed the woman around her waist "and tried to push her off the road and into some bushes," the report says.

The woman struggled to get free, punching the man—who, the report says, did not say anything during the attack—in the shoulder.

As this was happening, another jogger ran by, apparently startling the suspect, who then fled.

The woman ran to her car and called police. Officers were not able to find the man in the park.
