Some Extra Fizz: Booze Sales, Susan Hutchison, and State Workers' Health Care Benefits

By Josh Feit April 12, 2010

1. On Friday, we reported
that a ballot initiative to privatize liquor stores was in play. We did not get a call back from the NW Grocery Association—it's big grocery chains and drug stores that want to transfer the state liquor business over to Safeway and Rite Aid counters—but Jerry Cornfield at the Everett Herald confirmed that the initiative is being filed on Tuesday.

2. The Public Disclosure Commission has found that Susan Hutchison violated the law by not reporting in-kind contributions for using Criag McCaw's Laurelhurst house as her campaign office—a scandal that upended her campaign last fall
.

The PDC assessed
a $100 fine, a slap on the wrist.

But key here for Democrats is that her campaign violated the law. Hutchison had vehemently denied doing anything wrong.  This could hurt her potential Senate bid against Patty Murray. (She seems like the backup if Dino Rossi decides against running.)

3. Check our our take on the state budget in today's Morning Fizz
, where we focus on all the corporate tax breaks that the Democrats let slide.

But check out The Olympian's coverage too. They're focusing on health care pay for state workers, which will cost the state about $65 million.

The liberals in the House won this  fight, which we outlined in early March when the House passed its budget with a slew of amendments from the progressive caucus, including securing the $65 million for state worker health care.
