Smokers in Seattle parks must stay at least 25 feet from other park visitors under rules that took effect Thursday.
But whether smokers will be reprimanded depends on complaints lodged with the city's Parks Department, because policing is not part of the new regulation, according to parks officials.
The parks rule applies to play areas, beaches, playgrounds and picnic areas. The rule also applies to chewing tobacco.
If someone sees a smoker violating the rules, he or she can call the Seattle Parks Department at 206-684-4075 and report it.
