A 23-year-old old Seattle woman is facing theft charges following allegations that she courted and bilked a developmentally disabled man.

In charging documents, King County prosecutors claim Alesha Lair promised love to a 55-year-old man, whose mental abilities similar to those of a child, to abuse his credit, drain his savings and, ultimately, break his spirit.

"I believe that Alesha Lair was fully aware of (his) cognitive and physical disabilities, and knowingly and willingly exploited him," she continued. "She repeatedly lied to (him) by telling him that she loved him, and that she would marry and have children with him if he assisted her. …

Lair, then 18, began courting the man the man in 2005, authorities said. Shortly thereafter, the detective said, she began taking out credit cards in the man's name; he was unable to read or write, so Lair filed out the forms for him.
