Man and Woman Bring Baby On Shoplifting Spree
Seattle police arrested a man and a woman in the Central District last week after security staff at a South Seattle drug store caught the duo trying to make off with merchandise...with a baby in tow.
Police were called to the Bartell Drugs in the 2300 block of Rainier Ave S at about 4:30pm on April 12th after staff called in to report that two shoplifters had attempted to assault an employee and then drove away from the scene.
According to the report, security footage from the incident shows the woman wandering through the store's aisle stuffing merchandise into a black bag as the male suspect walks behind her with an infant wrapped in a blanket.
The report says the suspects stuffed "a lot of items" into a black bag and fled the store.
One security officer was able to get the bag away from the female suspect, but the male suspect grabbed at the bag and shoved the officer.
When another employee jumped in to the fray, the male suspect made several threats, "got into a fighting stance with clenched fists," and then fled.
Bartells security officers provided police with a license plate number for the suspects' vehicle, and Metro transit officers spotted the car at 28th and Yesler a short time later.
Both suspects were arrested and taken to the South Precinct. The report does not say what happened to the infant.
