Laundry Bandits Are All Washed Up

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee April 13, 2010

From the PI.Com:

Second-degree burglary charges have been filed against two men who police say posed as repairman to steal quarters from pay laundry machines at a First Hill apartment.

In what seems like a scene from a bad movie, investigators say when they found the suspected burglars "water was all over the floor and ceiling," a pair of garden sheers with bent blades was on the floor.

Seattle police were called about 9 p.m. to the Blanche Clare Apartments at 1406 Bellevue Ave. A tenant heard noises from his space near the laundry room and found the door wouldn't open after trying to use his key.

He forced the door open and found two men, Delvonn Ray Heckard, 39, and Shawn Patrick Hall, 23, authorities said. The men allegedly said they were fixing the washing machines. One was tipped over and "the room had water everywhere," Detective Melvin Britt wrote in court documents.

The tenant contacted the manager, who said he didn't authorize any work to the laundry room and wasn't aware of any washing machines problems.

In other news, someday I hope to write a story about a money laundering operation at a laundromat.
