Environmental Strategist at Microsoft

By Chris Kissel April 20, 2010

Tonight:

There are many ways to celebrate 4/20. You can get high and watch Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

I’m all for traditions, but try shaking it up this year: The 43rd District democrats are hosting a panel on marijuana, exploring decriminalization vs. legalization.

In light of the new medical marijuana law signed by Governor Gregoire this year, as well as increasing discussion of legalizing the stuff to help kick-start the economy, it’s a hot topic with a hot panel to match: WA Supreme Court Justice Richard Sanders, WA Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles (sponsor of the aforementioned bill), Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes, and Seattle attorney/reform activist Douglas Hiatt. The talk will be moderated by former pro-pot activist The Stranger’s Dominic Holden.

Tonight from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, at the University Heights Community Center (5031 University Way NE). Free and open to the public, but guests are asked to RSVP.

Tomorrow:

GoGreen is an all-day conference being put on by the City of Seattle to teach business leaders sustainable business practices and give practical instructions on "going green."

The conference consists mostly of panel discussions, including one on "Greening Your Business through Transportation," moderated by Seattle Department of Transportation's mobility manager and star Jemae Hoffman, and one on state and local sustainability resources moderated by Charlie Cunniff, director of Seattle Climate Partnership. (There are a whole bunch more; see the whole list here).

Morning keynote speakers include Mayor Mike McGinn (at 8:45 am) and Rob Bernard, Chief Environmental Strategist at Microsoft (at 9 am).

Tomorrow from 8:30 am to 5 pm, at the Hyatt at Olive 8 (1635 8th Avenue).
