A man on his way home from Georgetown was hospitalized for two days after fighting off four assailants who beat him with his cane, robbed him and attempted to steal his car.

The man was driving northbound on Airport Way S near S Holgate St. April 24 at 12:30 a.m. when he pulled his car into a parking lot to answer a phone call. In order to get the phone out of his back pocket, he had to open the driver's side door slightly, unlocking the doors. Four men he did not recognize then entered the vehicle. Three sat in the back seat and one got into the passenger seat, according to the police report.

Startled, the man got out of the car. Two of the suspects got out after him and allegedly began to attack him, punching him several times in the face, shoulder and arms. One of the assailants grabbed the man's walking cane and hit him over the head with it several times. The victim said he began to feel like he was going to blackout, but he continued to fight back.

At this point, one of the two suspects in the car helped in the fight and stole the man's gold necklace and the ring on his finger. The other attempted to start the car, but found it difficult due to what the police report described as a "special operator's setting."

When the victim, still fighting, saw someone in his car, he went to the driver's side door and pulled the suspect out. He got into the car and shut the door. The assailant with the man's cane beat the car with it, breaking his mirrors and the rear window. The victim was able to drive away, and the suspects ran away with his gold necklace, gold and diamond ring, and cell phone.

The victim drove home and woke up with medics all around him. He had called a friend, who arrived at his house and called for police and medical help. The man was bleeding profusely from the head and had a concussion. He spent two days in the hospital and received ten staples for the cuts on his head.

No suspects were located, according to the report.
