520 Group "Hopes Lawsuit Isn't Necessary"

By Erica C. Barnett April 6, 2010

Jonathan Dubman, the Montlake community representative for the pro-rail Coalition for a Sustainable 520, says he "hope[s] a lawsuit [challenging state plans to build a six-lane bridge without light rail] is not necessary," but wouldn't say specifically whether a lawsuit was in the works. At a press briefing
this morning, Mayor Mike McGinn alluded to the possibility of a suit challenging the plan, saying that a lawsuit would likely delay construction of a new bridge at least as long as studying light rail on the structure.

"The communities along the highway do not accept the [state's preferred] plan and we're going to do what it takes to make sure we get a better plan," Dubman said. "I'm delighted with the mayor's priorities and I would love to see the community unite behind a plan that works. What we heard today is promising." The mayor will present the results of the study to the public at City Hall tonight at 6:30 pm.
