The Morning Blotter: Rival Schools

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee March 30, 2010

Police are investigating a fight between students from two Central District middle schools after a young girl was beaten near Washington Middle School last week.

Around 3pm on March 24th, police received a report that a group of more than 30 juveniles were fighting at 23 Avenue S and S Jackson St.

Police arrived at the scene and found an injured Washington Middle School student, who told officers another young girl—wearing a Madrona K-8 t-shirt—had approached her, yelled "I've heard you've been talking shit and want to fight me" at the victim and sucker punched her in the face

The Madrona student hit the girl several more times, knocking her unconscious. The report says another girl at the scene then began pouring water on the victim and yelled "that she peed her pants."

A woman working in a store nearby broke up the fight and took the victim inside to wait for police.

Officers contacted staff at Madrona K-8 about the incident, and one staff member told them "she heard a group of students... talking about how they were going over to Washington Middle School." The report says the staff member "told the girls not to go because she knew they would only get into trouble."

Madrona staff provided police with information about the possible suspects in the assault.
