The Morning Blotter: Officer Injured In Dust Up With Dusted Up Gang Member
A Seattle police officer was sent to the hospital after he and two other officers fought with a gang member high on PCP in Columbia City last week, a police report says.
At about 1:30 a.m. on February 24th, officers spotted the 33-year-old man driving a "suspicious vehicle" outside of Angie's Tavern on Rainier Ave S and S Ferdinand, and pulled him over.
The report says the 33-year-old man "appeared to be concealing something and was not following officers' commands to keep his hands where they could be seen." The report indicates the man is a member of a "street gang."
Police ordered the man out of the car and frisked him, and found what appeared to be a revolver and a vial of PCP. According to the report, the man also "appeared to be high on PCP," a drug notorious for making suspects violent and difficult to arrest.
The man began to fight with police and it took three officers several minutes to subdue him. One officer was injured during the fight and was taken to Harborview for treatment. He was released a short time later.
Police also took the 33-year-old man to Harborview where he was kept under guard for several hours.
Records indicate the man was booked into the King County Jail for assaulting an officer and drug possession about five hours after the incident. The report says the handgun the man was carrying was a replica.
