Teen Charged Following Seattle Center Shooting

Prosecutors have filed weapons charges against a 16-year-old boy who was arrested near the Seattle Center last weekend by gang detectives after police received reports of gunfire from a nearby nightclub.

According to court documents, police were called to Club Diamond near 5th and Harrison at about 11:30 pm on March 19th, where security told police two large groups of young men were involved in a disturbance outside the club.

Cour records say two groups of young men dressed in red clothing and "dark colored clothing" where seen "posturing and yelling back and forth" shortly before shots were fired.

Police and gang unit detectives searched the area and found a group of six men walking southbound on 5th Ave near Denny Way.

A detective spotted the 16-year-old, who "looked extremely nervous" and appeared to be holding something in the front of his waistband. Court records say the boy then tried to hide from police behind a monorail track pillar.

Officers stopped the teen and found a 9mm Smith & Wesson—which, court recrods say, was reported stolen in Federal Way earlier this year—and took the boy in to custody.

Court records indicate the boy's only prior criminal history is a 2009 theft charge.
