State of the Artist Drops New Video

By Jonathan Cunningham March 9, 2010

I just spent the afternoon at Beacon Hill's Java Love hanging with Helladope (more on that later this week) and the State of the Artist
folks.  SOTA, a local trio of lyrically sharp hip-hop kids, just dropped a video for their song, "Real Hot," that they shot while on tour in California toward the end of 2009.

This video is actually a remix version of SOTA's "Real Hot" by the Ski Team, an L.A.-based production group. State of the Artist are dropping a self-titled debut album in May.

They also just collected $10,000 and a new Ford Fiesta from the folks at Ford as part of a, um, creative cross marketing plan. According to Parker from SOTA, Ford gave the group a pile of cash for a variety of projects including doing a mural on the side of Vain in Belltown, putting together an album release party, and they handed the group an SLR Camera, a Macbook Pro, and a digital flip cam.

If you've never heard of them before, this video is a solid introduction into one of Seattle's most promising young hip-hop groups. I don't know how I feel about them all sporting Mohawks, but these days it is what it is.
