Man Charged for Condo Cash Grab
The PI.Com has yet another good story today about a Capitol Hill condo treasurer who stands charged for bilking his neighbors for more than $80,000.
Charged in King County Superior court, Thomas L. Maccarone, Sr., 68, is accused of embezzling the funds from the Maison Ville Condos homeowners association during four years on the condo board.
According to charging documents, Maccarone wrote dozens of checks to himself using the association account meant to keep up the building, located in the 1700 block of Melrose Avenue. Prosecutors contend the alleged thefts were discovered when Maccarone was replaced as treasurer in March 2008.
Those who replaced Maccarone found the association's finances in disarray. After investigating the shared account, they determined Maccarone -- who has since moved to Palm Springs, Calif. -- was using the account to pay personal bills.
