A drunk man ended up on the business end of a hammer last week after he got into a dispute over a lonely beer left on the street in the International District.

According to a police report, the victim was walking on Maynard AV S at S Weller St at about 7:00pm on March 24th when he saw a can of beer on the sidewalk.

As the victim picked up the beer and began drinking it, another man approached him and "told him he was drinking his beer," the report says. The second man then told the victim "he could pay him 15 cents for [the beer] or give it back," but the victim kept drinking the beer.

The second man then pulled out a hammer and hit the victim in the face three times, the report says.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. The victim, who the report says "was very intoxicated and uncooperative"—received stitches for an injury on his face.
