Elementary School Student Claims He Was Assaulted By Teacher
Seattle police and Seattle school district security are investigating an elementary school student's claim that he was assaulted by his teacher.
On February 23rd, the mother of a student at John Muir elementary called police to report the incident.
The mother told police that her son was in class, when the bell rang signaling the end of the school day. When the boy tried to leave, the teacher said he needed to stay after school for talking in class.
When the boy tried to walk out of class, the report says the teacher "held her hands out, holding [the boy] from passing her."
The report says the boy tried to push past the teacher, who pushed back, causing the student "to lose his balance and fall." The report indicates that when the boy tried to grab the classroom phone, his teacher "wrapped her arm around [his] upper chest." Eventually the teacher let go and the boy left the classroom.
According to the report, when the boy's mother contacted the school's principal about the incident, "the principal did not say anything to her" and the mother was advised by a school counselor to call police.
Seattle school district spokeswoman Teresa Wippel could not provide details on the incident or whether the teacher or student have been disciplined, but says the district's security team is investigating.
