Shot Fired In Attempted Robbery in West Seattle

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee February 5, 2010

Police are investigating yet another robbery near Westcrest Park in West Seattle after a group of masked men tried to rob two women at gunpoint last weekend.

Just before 1:00 a.m. on January 31st, the two victims were walking on 8th Ave SW and SW Henderson street when they heard a car pull up down the street near the park and saw three Hispanic men—all wearing black bandannas over their faces—get out and walk towards them. Two of the men were armed with handguns, and one of the men in the group pointed a handgun at the victims and demanded money.

One woman told the men they didn't have any money so one the robber—determined not to walk away empty-handed—then asked for iPods, phones or anything else of value. When the woman repeated that she didn't have anything, the men huddled up and talk amongst themselves for a few moments. One of the men in the group again demanded money and then fired off one round—it's not clear from the report whether the man fired the shot at the victims or into the air—and all three men ran back to their car.

Neither victim was injured in the incident.
