Police arrested a 29-year-old "serial graffiti vandal" known as KIDD earlier this month who, authorities believe, is responsible for $30,000 in damage in Shoreline. "it is estimated that for the past year KIDD has been very active in tagging...around the Interurban Trail," police wrote in a search warrant affidavit.

Police caught up with KIDD on February 8th after officers were called to a Shoreline auto repair shop at 170th and Aurora Ave N, which has been a frequent target for graffiti.

A search warrant affidavit says police reviewed A camera at the shop apparently caught KIDD at work around 6:00 a.m., and police located the suspected tagger riding his bicycle a few blocks away.

Police searched the 29-year-old man and recovered paint-covered gloves—which matched the paint used in the earlier tagging—a spray cap with paint on it, a spring punch, bolt cutters, screwdriers, a flashlight, several keys which "appeared to be shaven," and a pocket knife. 

The man was booked into jail on malicious mischief charges. We're working to find out if he's been charged.

According to the warrant, KIDD is responsible for $30,000 in damage to private homes, parks, city streets, and  along the Interurban Trail—KIDD's primary target—between N 160th and N 205th.

I've got pretty strong feelings about taggers. I was in Greece last summer, there was graffiti EVERYWHERE. This photo, for example, was taken about 300 feet from the Parthenon. No one seemed to care. It was wonderful.

I think graffiti is just part of living in a dense urban environment. Sure, there should be limits—cars, wooden fences, schools, and trees probably look better without a coat of paint—and I get that the city's going to do its damndest to clean up tags/graffiti when it can, but I like my city to look lived-in.
