SFD Confirms Two Arson Fires Set in Pinehurst This Weekend

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee February 8, 2010

We just got off the phone with Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen, who confirmed that arson was the cause of two big fires in Pinehurst over the weekend.

The first fire was set in a garage behind a vacant home the 12300 block of 16th Ave NE at about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. Vander Houwen says the house was scheduled for demolition.

Yesterday, at about 2:30 p.m., someone set another fire in basement of a home in the 2200 block of NE 125th, a half-mile away from the site of the first fire. No one was in the home when the fire was set. Following the fire, police were looking for a man in his 50’s wearing a black hoodie, blue jacket and black pants.

Although both fires were set within half a mile of each other at about the same time of the day, the official line, according to Vander Houwen, is that the fires are "not necessarily connected at this point."

We're checking to see if police have any suspects or whether there are any known arsonists living in the Pinehurst area. We'll report back if we find out more.
