Robbery Round Up

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee February 24, 2010

We've got info on two robberies from the latest batch of (kinda old) SPD reports:

On 2-15-10 around 1440 hours the suspect entered the Gold Medal Video store at 6 S Weller ST. He was a white male 5-06, 140lbs with short dark hair, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white athletic shoes. He was identified by [the witness] who said he stole a carton of cigarettes from her store last week by reaching over the counter while she was distracted.

Today he loitered at the counter browsing through DVDs. He attempted to distract [her]  by asking her for something behind her. When she turned, the suspect lunged over the counter and reached into the open till. He grabbed at money in the drawer but slammed the drawer on the suspect's hand. He left the store eastbound on S Weller St.

[Witness] counted the money in the till and did not think she was not missing any cash. was working alone and not able to reconcile receipts and cash in the till at this time. I advised her to call if cash was missing to have that added to the report. [She] described the suspect as having bulging eyes and a very dark and prominent eye brow. An area check for the suspect was negative.

On 02/15/2010 at 1904 hours I was working a two man uniform patrol car with Officer Evans #7413 when we were dispatched to the report of a strong arm robbery near the intersection of 22 Ave SW and SW Henderson St. I contacted the victim at his residence located at 86XX 22 Ave SW. stated that he was walking down a staircase from the 2200 block of Barton Pl to the intersection of 22 Ave SW and SW Henderson St when he was confronted by five juvenile black males wearing dark clothing. One of the males punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground. A second male jumped on top of and held him down while the group took his leather jacket and a wallet located in his back pocket. The wallet contained his Washington State ID and $25. [Victim]  returned to his residence and called 911 to report the incident. [Victim] was unable to provided any further description of the unknown males. An area check for the males was negative.
