Police Responding to Gang Disturbance At Youth Service Center

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee February 19, 2010

Seattle police were just called to the Youth Service Center on 12th and Alder for the second time today. According to SPD spokeswoman Renee Witt, a group of gang members are refusing to leave YSC.

Witt says police were also called to YSC for another disturbance earlier today, but did not immediately have details on the incident.

Our news partners at Centraldistrictnews.com say they've heard the name Monroe over the scanner, which could refer to Quashawn Monroe—AKA "Savage"—the 17-year-old boy who was arrested earlier this week in connection with the now infamous bus tunnel beating of Aiesha Steward-Baker last month.  Monroe had a court appearance scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today.

Update: We've confirmed that eight gang members showed up to Monroe's court appearance and told security staff at YSC that more gang members were on the way.

Police have apparently cleared them out now.
