Police Investigating Gay Bashing on Capitol Hill

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee February 4, 2010

Two men say they were the victims of a gaybashing on Capitol Hill last weekend.

According to a police report, two men were walking on 11th Avenue and East Pine Street at about 2:15 on Saturday morning when they passed two other men, both carrying skateboards, on the street.

As they walked by the skateboarders, one of the men said "hey cutie" because, the report says, "they thought the two suspects were attractive."

The skateboarders—described in the report as white males in their late 20s to early 30s—began screaming "Fuck you! Fuckin' faggot. Fuck you in the asshole!" and "you don't fuckin' talk to us like that."

The scene drew a crowd and the skateboarders walked away. However, once the crowd dissipated, the skateboarders ran back and knocked the two men to the ground.

A witness yelled at the skateboarders, who fled north on 11th Avenue. As they ran from the scene, the report says they were heard yelling "fucking faggots."

One victim sustained minor bruising on his wrist. The other man was not injured.

Police were not able to find the suspects. The case is being investigated as a bias crime.
