Pepper Spray and Booze

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee February 23, 2010

Pinehurst really is doing its damndest to shake its reputation as the most boring neighborhood in the city.

On February 14th, police were called to the Pinehurst Safeway on NE 123rd and 15th NE after a shoplifter attempted to pepper spray the store manager.

According to a police report, the store manager told officers he saw a woman slipping a bottle of alcohol into her jacket at about 11:21 p.m.

The manager recognized the woman as a known shoplifter, and followed her out of the store. The woman yelled for the manager to "get away" and ran southbound on 15th Ave NE.

When the manager followed her, the woman tried to pepper spray him, but apparently missed. The manager returned to the store and called 911.

Since the woman had previously been busted shoplifting at the Safeway before, employees were able to provide officers with a photocopy of the woman's ID. Officers spotted the woman a short time later, walking into her apartment at 117th and Pinehurst Way NE.

The woman would not come out of her apartment and would not answer her phone, so police were not make an arrest.
